The Christmas Tree is the center of most homes during this time of year. The pictures of different Christmas Trees helps us all to see the difference in our decorating. Some trees have bows others have statue toppers. I love to see how people decorate their tree. I think it really brings out peoples personalities. To start the upcoming week of Christmas festivities here is two memorable Christmas stories from my family to yours.
Dad being Clark Griswold
We have all seen the movie Christmas Vacation. The scene where Clark Griswold get the family station wagon stuck in mud. My Dad did a similar stunt with our family. My Mom wanted to buy a $100 Christmas tree from K-Mart. Dad was like no way are we paying $100 for a fake Christmas tree, so he decided we should Clark Griswold it and cut down our own tree. We pile up in the blazer singing Christmas songs and head into the woods. Dad gets half way in and see a large mud hole and thinks he can run through it fast. Nope! He gets us stuck to the point of no return. He has to walk about 2 miles to the nearest pay phone (no cell phones in 1980.’s). Dad calls my uncle and he come to save the day. They try to pull the blazer out of the mud with his truck but nothing. The Christmas tree adventure ends up costing my parents about $500 dollars. This has become one of the funniest and unforgettable moments of my childhood. The moral of this story is listen to your wife and by the expensive fake tree!
When are the men in the attic coming down?
My first Christmas in my new house I was out shopping and came upon a home décor store going out of business. They had nutcracker ornaments for 75% off, this had me thinking. The nutcrackers were so adorable and I did not see a lot of people decorating with them. My love of nutcrackers began that day and is still growing. The nutcrackers keep growing each year and make the house full of men. To that statement my nephew with his all serious nine-year-old self ask me the following question last fall. Aunt Rhonda when are the men in the attic coming down? At first, I did not realize what he was talking about then it dawned on me he was referring to the nutcrackers. I told him first off, do not go around saying aunt Rhonda has men in her attic. The nutcrackers would come down once we started decorating for Christmas.
I hope my stories brought a smile or two to your face. Sometimes it is the smallest thing that makes Christmas so special. I have asked friends to share pictures of their Christmas tree so we can all enjoy the beauty of Christmas.
I hope you and your family make wonderful memories this season….
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
